Benjamin Netanyahu either loses the premiership or heads a materially different coalition — defined as either (a) a government not led by him, or (b) a coalition that excludes the Religious Zionism / Otzma Yehudit far-right bloc — by end 2027?
Netanyahu's current coalition — Likud plus Shas, UTJ, Religious Zionism, Otzma Yehudit — was formed in December 2022 and has been under sustained pressure. Opposition parties (Benny Gantz's National Unity, Yair Lapid's Yesh Atid, Avigdor Lieberman's Yisrael Beiteinu, potentially Naftali Bennett returning) have polled consistently ahead of the coalition since mid-2023 by 10-20 seats in most Knesset polls. The next election must occur by October 2026 at latest; multiple triggers (corruption trial verdicts, coalition fracture over Haredi conscription, far-right partner demands) could bring it earlier. Even if Netanyahu remains PM through 2027, the Religious Zionism / Otzma Yehudit bloc may exit the coalition over policy disputes, triggering coalition restructuring that satisfies the second resolution path.
Where reality is heading
The movers, ranked by leverage
What would change our mind
- Opposition parties maintain polling lead ≥10 Knesset seats over the Netanyahu coalition in major polls (Channel 12, Reshet 13, Direct Polls) for 6+ consecutive months
- Haredi conscription Supreme Court ruling triggers coalition exit by Shas or UTJ, forcing new government formation
- Netanyahu corruption trial produces verdict or substantial development that erodes coalition political support
- Religious Zionism or Otzma Yehudit withdraws from government over policy dispute (Gaza, judicial reform, settlement policy)
- Netanyahu coalition polling recovers to within 5 seats of opposition for sustained period
- Haredi conscription issue is resolved via legislation preserving coalition
- Netanyahu successfully delays corruption trial beyond the window
- External crisis (Israel-Iran war escalation) consolidates coalition under security-emergency framing
